«Splitting, Cutting, Writting, Drawing, Eating... Gordon Matta-Clark»

Bis:03.09.2017

Stadt: Porto

Wo: MAC de Serralves

This exhibition at the Serralves Museum will deal with social and formal gestores apects of the conception of architecture of Matta-Clark, or in his words, to 'make space withou buildong it'. This presentation, composed especially by works by Gordon Matta-Clark Archive at the CCA, will present photographs, drawings and documents related to the most important projects of the artist, and also his commercial movies, as well as important loans related to the pioneering work of the artist. The exhibition will explore the unique sense of Matta-Clark 'metaphorical voids, gaps, abandoned spaces, places that have not been built.' The Serralves presentation is designed around a series of constructive and destructive verbs that define the architectural conception of the artist: cut, separate, bend, broke, write, build, draw, etc. In addition to file materials and important works of this artist, the exhibition will present a selection of works by other artists that create a context for the literal and metaphorical cuts of Matta Clark, made on reconstruction and abandoned locals and in contexts extremely queer and economic deprivation. This exhibition continues the collaboration between Serralves and the Canadian Centre for Architecture. Among previous collaborations include the exhibitions ' O Processo de SAAL: Architecture and participation1974-1976 ', in 2015, and 'O Arquivo de Álvaro Siza Vieira ', in 2016.

«Julie Mehretu: Uma História Universal de Tudo e de Nada»

Bis:03.09.2017

Stadt: Porto

Wo: MAC de Serralves

Occupying the central gallery and the halls of the left wing of the Museum, this major exhibition presents 20 years of painting and drawings by Julie Mehretu (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1970), from 1996 to the present day. Mehretu is one of the most important artists working today and this will be her first exhibition in Portugal. Her paintings have redefined the way we think of the painting as a means of mapping the world in time and space. Although she is mainly known for her monumental paintings that combine architectural plans and maps of cities- in a research on the themes of globalization and identity - her practice is based on a expltation simultaneously rigorous and explosive of the drawing, which conjures up many references, ranging from surreal designs to the Chinese calligraphy, from pictorial experiences of Henri Michaux made under the influence of mescaline. Erasers, deletions are just as important as the marks made by the artist, giving rise to a palimpsest of spaces of visual memory and culture. Mehretu participated in numerous international exhibitions and biennials that assured her international recognition, including, in 2005, the American Art Award from the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the prestigious MacArthur Fellows award. In 2009 and 2010 Mehretu has exposed a cycle of large paintings at the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin, which later traveled to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Her monumental panel paintings Mogamma, part of an ongoing meditation on places of revolution and social change, was commissioned for Documenta 13, in 2013.

«A Colecção no Palácio da Bolsa»

Bis:24.09.2017

Stadt: Porto

Wo: Palácio da Bolsa

In the decades of the 60's and the 70's, the artistic languages have undergone a paradigm shift. The sculpture was not exception. In this exhibition the works of Ângelo de Sousa, João Machado and Zulmiro de Carvalho report us to this reality. In this presentation of works from the Coleção Serralvesat the Palácio da Bolsa, some sculptures take over the ground, regardless of the plinth, other transmit us visible concerns with the ideas of seriality, industrial manufacturing and literality of technique (what we see is what we see). These elements are enough to realise that the Portuguese sculptors have submitted proposals which today confront us with the various pats that were making the art more and more direct in contact with the public, from pop art, english abstract sculpture, and american minimalism. This presentation is the result of a partnership between the Palácio da Bolsa and the Museu de Serralves de Arte Contemporânea no Portounder which works from the Serralves Collection are displayed in the historical interiors of the Palace.

«Um campo depois da colheita para deleite estético do nosso corpo» - Alberto Carneiro

Bis:01.10.2017

Stadt: Porto

Wo: Culturgest Porto

Between 1968 and 1973, Alberto Carneiro (Coronado, 1938) performed three installations that were determinant for his course and for any subsequent Portuguese art: O Canavial: Memória Metamorfose, from 1968, Uma floresta para os teus sonhos, from 1970, Um campo depois da colheita para deleite estético do nosso corpo, from 1973-1976. The three works comprise telluric situations in which the presence of the field, recreated in the exhibition space by the strict and careful organization of elements in the cycle of nature, produce to the spectator travel machines in time and space. The last of these parts, much more difficult to produce because entirely dependent on the cycle of Nature, is not seen in Porto since its presentation, in 1976, in Museum Soares dos Reis, in the exhibition that Alberto Caneiro made there. In Lisbon this work was installed in the retrospective that Carneiro made at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1991. For this presentation at Porto was necessary to reserve a field that was seeded with rye, possible by the collaboration of the Municipality of Montalegre and the Ecomuseum of Barroso. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the surroundings and the poetics of the work of Alberto Carneiro, particularly under circumstances in which it is possible to see, on simultaneous display, at Culturgest in Lisbon, other installations of the artist's reference. On the occasion of the exhibition, will be release a catalogue with documentation.
